James is Now Safe - Thanks to You!

Here’s His story - and how you can help him and his friends today

Imagine being a young child in a home where there are no adults to care for you. Tragically, in Africa, this is a common occurrence. There are many “child-headed households” where kids have no one to love them, care for them, and meet their needs. Instead, they struggle to survive, often ending up as child laborers and in never-ending cycles of abuse and deprivation.

This is a situation that HopeCo - with your help - is working to change.

Eight-year-old James* comes from one such child-headed household, having been abandoned by both of his parents. He had very little food, no medical care when he was sick, no shoes for his feet. All hopes for an education and a future seemed to have been dashed the moment his parents walked away from the family home.

Thankfully, HopeCo staff found out about James and stepped in to help. James is now safe. He is part of our loving family at City of Hope and has just completed Grade One in our primary school. He has thrown himself into his studies, finishing top of his class this year. James loves dancing and singing - he is a member of our church choir - and enjoys learning about Jesus.

James is already clear about his dreams for the future. “I want to help other children,” he says. “I want to seek justice for people. And I hope that one day I will see my mom again.”

YOU can be a part of the rescue of children like James! Your gift for nutritious food, blankets and sheets, or a mosquito net will help young children like James have all they need when they arrive at City of Hope!

  • Blankets and Sheets ($25 for sheets and blankets for one child)

Many of the children we serve are rescued from abuse, violence, and abandonment. Your gift of blankets and sheets will help a child like James feel secure and warm as they snuggle into bed after a busy day of study and play!

  • Mosquito Nets ($60 for three nets)

Mosquitos carry deadly malaria - which is a BIG killer in Africa. These bed nets help prevent malaria and can last for years. Your gift of three nets will protect James and his friends and help keep them healthy as they play, grow, and dream!

  • Nutritious Food ($120 gives supper to 85 children)

Imagine going to bed hungry each night. This is a feeling that James experienced before coming to City of Hope. A nutritious diet is vital to help children grow and stay healthy - your gift will provide delicious food and ensure all of our kids go to bed content!
