HopeCo is a Christ-centered organization called to proclaim and demonstrate the gospel by providing quality care to vulnerable children, families, and communities in East Africa. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we bear witness to the one living God, revealed through the Bible as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We fully embrace the doctrine of the Apostles Creed, with the following beliefs being the foundation for our mission:
The Bible is the Word of God. It shapes our worldview and our actions. We receive it as entirely true and trustworthy. Throughout the Bible, we see and hear God’s call to seek justice, care for the fatherless, and defend the oppressed. It is this call that drives us.
God is the Creator of the world. All human beings are created in the image of God, male and female, in order to love and worship Him, relate to one another in justice and compassion, and care for His creation. Therefore, we will love, care for, and empower each child we serve so that they can truly flourish and become all that God intends for their lives.
Sin has caused chaos in the world. Humans have sinned by rebelling against God. This has impacted every aspect of our lives, causing poverty, abuse, and suffering. It is sin that has caused the destruction and pain in the communities we serve – and yet we have faith that spiritual, physical, emotional, and social transformation is possible as we compassionately serve these communities and their people.
Every person has intrinsic value. Though distorted by sin, God loves and cares for all people in their cultural and ethnic diversity and has reached out in grace to save them through Jesus. We view each child we serve as a blessing, and we believe that each one has a unique calling.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. In his death, Jesus took upon Himself the sin of the world so that we can be put right with God. In his resurrection, Jesus defeated death, through His ascension He is raised up as Lord, and at His return, he will execute God’s judgment, destroy evil and death, and establish the universal reign of God. We commit to faithfully sharing these wonderful truths with children and adults through our ministry since we know that it is Christ alone who transforms lives forever!
God has given us His Holy Spirit. The Bible testifies to the Spirit’s empowering action for liberation and justice. We believe that the Holy Spirit is at work today, speaking to and guiding all who truly believe. We believe He has given us our mission. We have experienced Him at work and have faith that He will lead us. And we see the fruits of His Spirit in the lives of many children and others that we serve!
We are privileged to be part of God’s mission. As part of the body of Christ, we exist to worship and glorify God the Father, commissioned by His Son Jesus Christ and empowered by His Holy Spirit to participate in His transforming mission. Therefore, driven by our faith in Jesus, we provide quality holistic care that creates lasting transformation, enabling children, their families, and communities to flourish.
