SUMMARY OF ROLE

HopeCo (www.joinhopeco.com) is a Christ-centered nonprofit organization that provides shelter, education, medical care, empowerment programs, and the Gospel message to more than 500 vulnerable children, their families, and communities in Tanzania and Kenya.

The Donor Care and Communications Specialist will ensure effective follow-up with and care of HopeCo donors and volunteers through various communication channels and initiatives. They will manage all social media, website, and donor emails.

This part-time position (an average of 28 hours per week) can be based in our office or remote and reports to the CEO. There are no benefits for this job, and it has the potential to become full-time. The annual starting salary is $26,000.

If working remotely, visits will be required to HopeCo’s office in Martinsville, VA, approximately 2-3 times a year. Occasional travel to church partners in the US and to East Africa may also be required.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Establish meaningful relationships with donors, developing individualized communication streams that grow engagement and funding. This includes:

  1. Assist the CEO in working with major donors. 

  2. Maintain and update our website and social media channels.

  3. Communicate with donors via cards, letters, email, phone, Zoom, etc.

  4. Work with the Director of Communication to develop and implement an effective communication plan to engage donors and grow their giving. 

2. Develop coordinated, compelling communications that increase the organization’s visibility across multiple channels. This includes:

  1. Collaborate with the Director of Communication and CEO to develop annual, quarterly, and monthly communication plans and strategies, including print and digital communications.

  2. Explore/develop other creative ways to present and grow the visibility of HopeCo.

  3. Gather metrics that assist the organization in making sound business decisions – and help identify trends and provide analysis.

  4. Provide meaningful input/ideas in other areas as appropriate – for example, corporate partners, church partnerships, mission teams, events, etc.

  5. Champion the HopeCo brand (image, voice, style, and promise) in all communication.

SKILL AND CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

Skill Proficiencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication/marketing or three years experience in nonprofit fundraising and donor management.

  • Ability to write and present funding proposals and make an “ask” to prospective donors.

  • Efficient organizational and management capabilities, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritize projects and deliver on goals.

  • Creative and innovative; able to generate, develop, and implement ideas.

  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and propose appropriate actions in response.

  • Proficient in talking on the telephone, Zoom, face-to-face meetings, and video.

  • Excellent writing skills and grammar.

  • Ability to use simple design software (e.g., Canva) to create graphics, presentations, etc.; ability to use simple video tools, including editing; experience in website management.

  • Excellent computer skills with a strong working knowledge of applications including:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Canva, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Squarespace, and Mailchimp.
