“A vision built on the Gospel of Jesus”

Thank you, Alex and Emily, for serving KIDS AND FAMILIES IN TANZANIA!

Alex and Emily Long recently returned to the US after a month of serving at City of Hope in Tanzania, and they made quite an impact during their stay. We are thankful for their passion for helping children, women, and families!

Emily is a doctor, and she spent her days working at Amani Medical Center with Dr. Adam and the rest of the medical staff. This included helping with patients’ medical diagnoses and care, supporting our doctor as babies were born, evaluating our resources, programs, and policies, and sharing ideas for future growth. Emily is especially interested in tropical medicine and the health systems in East Africa, and she feels called to come back to Africa one day to help support and train future physicians.

Emily reflected on how “The City of Hope medical staff were amazing and welcoming. I felt part of the team and learned a great deal that will help my future medical work in East Africa and elsewhere. I also had the opportunity to visit the schools and get to know the teachers and students. I have visited many schools in East Africa, but City of Hope stands out as being exceptionally managed where the students receive a good education while also experiencing the love of God!”

While Emily has traveled to East Africa numerous times before, this was Alex’s first time in Africa - but he jumped right in with the staff and kids at City of Hope, spending most of his time working with the students, leading devotionals in the mornings and evenings, and preaching. We are so grateful for Alex and Emily and their passion to be the hands and feet of Christ in Tanzania. Their time at City of Hope was a great blessing and encouragement - and the children loved getting to know them!

My greatest joy was not in sharing my wealth, strength, or western insights; it was in meeting students on their journeys and offering hope from the pages of Scripture. That is what makes this place a true City of Hope: a vision built on and guided by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am forever grateful to the City of Hope for giving me and my wife not only the opportunity to bless these children, but also encouraging us to do so in the spirit and strength of Jesus Christ.
