Caring for Orphans and At-Risk Children

Countless children in East Africa live in dangerous and unhealthy environments - and for many, the situation is getting worse. As COVID-19 wreaked sickness and death around the continent, a “shadow pandemic” - a growth in child marriages, violent child abuse, and female genital mutilation - has emerged. Yet, thanks to your help, we continue to respond to these horrors, offering rescue, healing, and a fresh hope to vulnerable children.

At the City of Hope, we offer residential care for orphans and other at-risk children, where their physical, emotional, educational, social, and spiritual needs are met. Many of these young children are girls who have been rescued from abusive situations, including child marriage and female genital mutilation.

RESCUE AND CARE

As we rescue at-risk children from hopelessness and despair, our caregivers invest in their healing and future. Each child is introduced to the Good News of the Gospel and their loving Heavenly Father.

quality education

Each child at the City of Hope gets access to quality education at our primary or secondary school, both of which consistently rank in the top 3% of the country. Our teachers equip each child for a purposeful future.

Empowerment

We seek to empower each child to thrive and to follow the call God had placed on their lives. We are seeing our young adults begin to enter careers in teaching, nursing, and engineering!

“Girls feel safe because their families have been transformed!”

“What is unique about City of Hope is our Christ-centeredness here. Our vision is to see transformed lives and flourishing communities, and every day our focus is to make this become a reality. In five or ten years, I see very family that we work with have their first school graduates. These families will see that growth is possible, resulting in lasting change. I see a future where our kids are planted in different regions in Tanzania and even across the globe. In our village, Ntagatcha, we are already seeing change. Negative practices like Female Genital Mutilation are dying in this area, and girls feel safe because their families have been transformed. We want to get a point where even the thought of FGM never even crosses the mind of anyone around here. It used to feel as though there was a wall up between the community and the City of Hope, but that wall is slowly being broken down. We want to see this wall continue to be destroyed and for the community to join us in what we believe.” -Cynthia Joseph, Tanzania Program Manager

Give Hope and Healing

Will you join us in caring for the children in our residential program? Although most of the children at City of Hope come from backgrounds of abuse, abandonment, poverty, and neglect, it can be hard to tell when interacting with them. The children are full of joy, love, and dreams!

Through the love and care of our incredible staff and the redemptive love of Jesus, these children can overcome and heal from past hurts. YOU can join us in giving these children hope for their bright futures.

Here’s How You can partner with the city of Hope:

  • GIVE by becoming a Hope Partner. Our Hope Partners contribute $100 or more a month to a specific HopeCo program, and receive quarterly updates, reports, and stories.

  • PRAY for our staff as they provide care to 95 children in our residential program. Pray for healing and restoration for each child, and that they would thrive at the City of Hope. Pray for each child to know and experience the love of Jesus.

  • SERVE by coming on a mission team or as a volunteer to City of Hope, and spend time encouraging our children and staff.

Thank you for investing in these children!
